Honea Construction added a room to the lower level of our split level house to enclose furnace, washer, dryer and add a half bath in this area. Framed out walls, hung dry wall, taped and mudded, extended drop ceiling, added door, moved furnace vent, added light switch.
I have worked with Eric from Honea Construction on many projects during my career at DirectBuy. His pricing is excellent; he is very professional and the quality of the workmanship is great. We are relatively new to the area, and were concerned that we were not familiar with any local tradesmen when we decided to proceed with a total kitchen remodel. We interviewed over six different remodeling companies, and ultimately decided on Honea Construction because (1) we believed, based on his prompt quote and follow-up, that Eric would be very professional and stick to the budget and timelines presented, and (2) because we have small children and liked the idea of working with one tradesmen qualified to complete plumbing, electrical, installation, etc, without having to deal with a "contractor" who would have multiple unknown parties in our house throughout the project.
Eric certainly lived up to expectations and we are very pleased with the final product. Once the project got started, we were amazed at how quickly it progressed to completion. We are extremely satisfied with the work Eric performed finishing our basement. We would recommend him without reservation. His work was excellent, detailed, on schedule and exactly on cost. This was a our first big contractor job and we had heard the horror stories from friends about bad remodels, so I was very careful in picking the right person. I picked 5 contractors from Angieslist. One never called back, another one (he had a regular job and did this on the side) wanted close to $50k for the work. Of the other three, all were similar in price. I picked Eric for the following reasons: The others took several days to contact me and over a week to provide an estimate. They did not return calls for days, I had to call to make sure they were working on it. Eric called back the same day and arranged a visit within two days. He was very meticulous in measuring and discussing what we wanted and spend much more time then others doing so. He emailed a detailed diagram and estimate to us the next day. My wife and daughter wanted to know what the estimates would be for different configurations and feedback on them. He gladly provided several different designs and detailed feedback on them. Eric has been building homes for 20 years and we realized he has extensive design experience and a keen eye to what will or will not work aesthetically. By the time the others provided their initial estimates, Eric had provided several and had spend a considerable amount of time and effort in making sure we were heard and satisfied with the proposal.
During the work, Eric was always on time and respectful of our home. At the end of each day he left his work area clean and all his tools carefully stored, always leaving a neat and safe work area. He provided detailed updates of his progress. A couple of times, he mentioned small changes to the original design that he felt would be better, these were always at no additional cost. At one point, I asked if doing some extra work in the furnace area would increase the value of the home and that I would pay for it if he thought it did. He noted that while if would look nicer it was not something that would increase the price when we sell. I was impressed with his honestly, I expected most contractors would have tried to sell me on getting more work done.
Quality of work: We could not be happier. Eric appears to take great pride on the quality and detail of his work and it really showed. The work was impeccable. On the next to last day, Eric spend close to a day, going over every inch of the basement, doing touchups to the paint and trim. Even though he is finished, he requested to come back after the carpet is in to make sure any nicks or scrapes they make are taken care of at no additional cost.
Interaction: Eric always arrived and left on time. When not there, he either took my calls immediately or called back within the hour. While working, he was always ready to answer questions and provide feedback as requested on fixtures and paint choices we made. In his interactions with us he was always very professional, polite, and work oriented. He was always on task and schedule.
In summary, we could not have been more satisfied with the work and our Interactions with Eric. We are planning some more remodeling and will, without question, have him to the work. We know we will get the highest quality work at a reasonable price.

Eric’s involvement in this project included help with the final design, removal of the old plumbing fixtures, mirrors and cabinetry and installation of the new ones. Honea Construction just completed a bathroom for us and we are exceedingly happy with it. The workers were polite and efficient, they asked clarifying questions before doing things that could not be changed and Eric Honea, the owner, not only listened to our questions and concerns but also reached out to our other service providers, i.e. granite people to coordinate with them and make sure everything worked according to our wishes and without problems. In the middle of the job, we decided we wanted to put hardwood flooring in our living room and Honea Construction accommodated us by providing us with a quick estimate and incorporating that work into an already on-going job. They completed both to our satisfaction. The biggest compliment I can give to Eric and Honea Construction is that we would not only refer them to our friends, but we would also hire them again.

I have never remodeled anything before and never hired a contractor before and have heard many horror stories from friends, so I was more than a little nervous about starting my kitchen project. Working with Eric (Honea Construction) on my kitchen has been such a positive experience that I can not compliment him enough. My first meeting with Eric was to estimate my project and very clearly define its scope so that we both had a clear view of what was to be done and what it would cost. Throughout the entire project, Eric responded to phone calls and emails in a very timely manner. I always knew when he would arrive daily and what he would be working on. Communication is one of his many strong points.

I hired Eric Honea for a major renovation job for my 1893 Chicago city row house. The job spanned all three levels of my house and included installing custom-built cabinetry, designing a custom mantelpiece that also incorporated media components, and also installing wood paneling to unify the new look in the main living room. Additionally, Eric installed a drywall ceiling that incorporated extensive electrical work and new lighting. He also built a closet space underneath our basement steps and a custom valance with shelving and lighting over a sofa. Eric’s workmanship is exquisite and has elevated the look of our house more than I could have ever imagined. Eric’s carpentry skills are extraordinary, and he combines them with a keen eye for the overall design and look of a house. Eric truly transformed the look of my house and the result is absolutely stunning. During the pre-construction consultation phase I was impressed by Eric’s patience and double-checking of measurements, as well as his thoughtful suggestions for the overall design. Eric’s experience and expertise come through not only in his outstanding craftsmanship and eye for design, but also in his good communication skills. Eric greatly helped in communicating, interpreting and executing the design. He was able to effectively communicate with the cabinetry supplier as well as translate the more complex aspects of the construction world into more comprehensible terminology for the layperson. Eric was precise in his time-table estimates and was most helpful in making the job as expedient as possible. Eric also has a very courteous and professional demeanor. He is polite and very respectful while on the job, and also works very expediently and as non-obtrusively as possible. Eric is also very approachable as well. I especially appreciated his patience and willingness to converse about the job as it unfolded. Eric kept me informed every step of the way as to the job progress and the materials used and needed. Eric’s professional bookkeeping and detailed invoices also helped keep the project’s scope and cost in close check. Eric called us back about the house and we saw the plans and put some money down. He began building our new retirement home in April 2002. We visited on weekends and communicated through email while he built the entire structure alone with his own two hands. He was understanding when my wife wanted to make several changes not in the original plans. In November, when keys were issued and we had our final walk-though we were thrilled with the results. In my experience as a professional, never have I had the pleasure of doing business with a handshake, promise, and some simple receipts. Mr Honea is indeed a reputable businessman.
Eric did a fantastic job on our two bathrooms. He was upfront on the costs and itemized his expenses. His workmanship was A+ especially the stone tile. I would recommend him to anyone.
Although I had originally contacted Honea Construction to install my kitchen cabinets only, I soon found out his expertise spreads out to many other areas. He took my shaky floor and made it solid before laying the 18" ceramic tiles floor I had ordered. When I was unsure about a few things he was helpful with good advice and when he planned a work day or work week he was on time and looking very professional. Clean up was done every day after work and we settled on the bill as work was preformed. Another good aspect to working with Eric is his great communication through email. Afterwards a follow up call was made to make sure I was happy.
